Weekenders

striped weekender bag

I have more tote bags than I know what to do with– “weekenders” most of them are called. Though I beg to differ, because none of my weekender bags really do much at all in the way of holding all of my possessions for a weekend trip. Maybe I just overpack(?!), but I’m pretty sure it’s that those totes aren’t really built for carrying 2+ outfits, an extra pair of shoes, night clothes, toiletries, jewelry, and so on.

Gosh I sound high-maintenance.

Anywho, I headed home for my dad’s birthday + Mother’s Day last weekend, and it was such a relief to have this new bag to pack with! Meet my Midway Weekender from functional-but-fun bag designer Po Campo. It fit a truly admirable amount of things– I’m talking two pairs of shoes, clothes for three days, my rain jacket, book, plus my obnoxious medicine, jewelry, and cosmetic cases.

These bags were actually designed for bikers– because in 2009, Chicagoans Maria Boustead and her then-business partner, Emily Taylor struggled to find stylish bags that functioned appropriately for their commutes. Man oh man do I wish these has existed back when I studied abroad and went everywhere on my bike!

Have you seen the Kate Spade Saturday Weekender Bags with the shoe compartment on the bottom? Po Campo’s have those too– SO helpful! Extra space and a great way to keep your shoes separate from clothes (gross).

In addition to the weekender, Po Campo also has crossbody bags, handlebar bags, trunk bags, and tons more. Check out this satchel you can attach your yoga mat to!

Grapefruit Goodness

grapefruit skincare

Believe it or not, I am not a beauty product junkie. I do, from time to time, have my weak moments of spending $12 on nail polish, but other than that, I’m pretty good at only sticking to products I know I love, and especially in drugstores where it’s so easy to rack up a basket full. One of my newest loves? Yes To Grapefruit skincare products. Hello body butter // dark circle correcting cream // towelettes // SPF moisturizer // serum // scrub // and more!

yes to grapefruit

Grapefruit is the newest member of the Yes To family, whose products blend powerful fruit acids with ingredients that help to reduce hyper-pigmentation, correct skin damage, and enhance radiance.

grapefruit body butter

Why grapefruit? I could give you all the science behind it, but all you really need to know is the rich Vitamin C found the the extract is great for enhancing skin radiance and evening skin tone– something I’ve always struggled with. I apply the Dark Spot Correcting Body Cream right after showers, and after only a week my skin is feeling so much softer, and I’m already in the midst of saying goodbye to any lingering dark spots. Plus, I don’t even need to tell you how perfect the citrus smells. Like a tropical getaway in the middle of this dry and bitter winter.

grapefruit towelettes

The best part about all of this? No mail-order. No brand reps. No wandering around department store beauty counters. All Yes To products can be found at stores like Target and Walgreens at drugstore prices that won’t break the bank. You can buy them online here and here, but I just dare you to tell me you’re not within five miles of one of the stores listed here :)

SPF

I’m excited to present a little video I did with Bona Clara (remember my review of their skin care line here?) I got to show off one of my favorite products of theirs– the SPF moisturizer. I’m no vlogger so go easy on me! :)

The SPF 29 sunscreen + moisturizer runs at $40 and is worth every penny– I am SO thrilled to not have to worry about greasy sunscreen all over my face this summer! Click here to shop the SPF that’s right for your age.

Sweaters and Specs

Sweater, American Eagle [similar 1; 2] // Skirt, H&M // Swiss Dot Tights, Kate Spade // Glasses c/o Firmoo // Clutch, vintage Coach [similar Legacy] // Scarf, H&M [similar] // Patent flats, Urban Outfitters [similar]

I know that within my normally preppy style, you all may find that I, at times, have hipster tendencies. This probably stems from my alma mater’s influence (though I was nowhere close to most of my classmates in terms of Urban Outfitters addictions!). Yet I can always appreciate a good pair of oversized black-rimmed glasses, like these from Firmoo.

firmoo glasses

Firmoo is an online prescription and non-prescription glasses retailer with tons of styles to choose from at seriously I-can’t-believe-it affordable prices. In fact, your first pair can even be free. I adore the pair they sent me (can be found here) and am having fun using them as more of an accessory than a necessity– they’re a little bigger and wilder than my everyday glasses.

Ordering them was way too easy– all you need to do is insert your prescription. My only quibble? They were a little big for me and needed some adjusting, though I blame this more on my own head, not Firmoo!

But really, how many is too many when it comes to glasses? Because I sense I’ll be ordering a few more pairs…
