Nanny’s Fashion

Happy Mother’s Day!  Now my mom is one of my best friends, but after coming across this photo recently, I thought I’d dedicate a post to my grandmother.

She and my grandpa are the couple on the right.  Weirdly enough though, my mom and I look a lot like my great aunt on the left.

Even though I only knew her in her 70s and 80s, I still understood what a well-dressed woman she was.  These stretch clasp belts that are all the rage right now?

Kimchi Blue Turtle Stretch Belt, Urban Outfitters, $24

Yeah, she had two.  Butterfly ones that I would “borrow” all the time.

And the terribly tacky handmade clip-on cardboard earrings I would give her as gifts?  She sucked it up and wore them, despite the huge fashion feux pas, as to not disappoint me.  What a classy lady.

Here are some ModCloth outfits I think she would appreciate.  You know what they say: what goes around, comes around.  And with fashion, I couldn’t agree more.

Go Your Own Grey Dress, $100

Boat House Brunch Dress, $160

Craving Curry Skirt, $33

Sailor Away Shorts, $65

Coffee Malt Top, $35

Petal Power Ring, $12

edit: Check out some of this jewelry of hers I wear.  The bracelet is from 1965, a gift she received for winning a President’s Award as an Avon Lady!

Mother’s Day Gift Ideas from Vera

My first Vera Bradley bag was actually my mother’s.  It was straight out of 1983 but just as pretty as the fabrics you still see them using today.  I love Vera because it’s a brand my mom and I, like many other mothers and daughters, both love and can bond over.  Here are some of my favorite Vera Bradley picks for Mother’s Day– all under $30–and so pretty for spring!

Deluxe Photo Album in Versailles, $21-$28

Checkbook Cover, $12-$19

Hard Eyeglass Case, $12-$18

Note Cards, $10.50-$14

Large Cosmetic, $22-$26

My favorite pattern is definitely the last one, Watercolor.  It’s new for 2011 and just so soft and lovely!
