Garance Doré for Kate Spade New York

This weekend I stopped in Kate Spade New York‘s Newbury Street store, where they were celebrating French fashion blogger Garance Doré and her illustrations featured as a part of the brand’s new capsule collection. I am absolutely smitten with this line: peter pan collars, French script, and bow details– what is not to j’adore?

Studio Pull Over, $128
Laura Top, $248
Umbrella, $78

All in all, I would like to get my hands on one of these pieces more than most things. Which is your favorite?

The only thing able to brighten up a rainy day Boston experienced last week was a new handbag on my shoulder. I’m so excited to introduce you to Angela & Roi, a debuting online handbag boutique, owned and operated by two college students just a little more interested in sharing their love of fashion + accessories with you than slaving away in the libraries of their Boston universities :)

I just adore my new scarf shoulder bag, and am seriously obsessing over all of the other cute shapes and styles their online boutique has to offer! At such affordable prices, I have a feeling this is going to be a tough shop to avoid…

But really, what are you waiting for? Envelope clutches + irresistible patterns + darling shapes + dainty details await!

Well the funny thing is Jules, my back…

Never mind. No more Superbad references.

But today we are talking backpacks! I’ve been meaning to get a new one for my upcoming vacation (just a few days away!), but still haven’t been able to decide on which… these little guys were (and still are) some of my favorite contenders though.

Ecote Hanging Garden Backpack, Urban Outfitters, $59

Walking Day Trip Backpack, ModCloth, $65

Langdale Backpack, Jack Wills, $79.50

Leather Backpack, Topshop, $80

Schools Out Backpack, Billabong, $59

At this point though, I have a feeling I’ll be sticking with my trusty Vera. Where do you turn for cute backpacks or other travel bags?

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be:
A ballerina
A chef
A dolphin trainer
A writer

No, but seriously.  I was collecting knock-off Kate Spades from Canal Street in Chinatown way before I even should have known what designer handbags were.  I thought her purses were the most beautiful things, and that she was the classiest of ladies.

And I’m not going to lie, a tiny part of 12-year-old Emily still would like maybe end up in accessory design one day.  But for now, until my talents are discovered, I’ll stick with Viv Pickle.

Viv Pickle (Yes, how cute is that name) is a handbag design studio in Philadelphia (though you can email them your orders from anywhere).  Creating a pickle is as easy as a-b-c… or s-f-d: pick your shape, your fabric (outer and lining), and your details (zippers, pockets, straps, etc.).

Visiting Viv Pickle when I was younger growing up outside Philly made me feel like my dreams of becoming a purse designer were actually coming true.  But ten years later, I still love it there!

The Moral of Coral + Other Weekend Things

Happy Monday kittens!

How were your weekends? Mine started off super hectic, as we had lots of visitors at the new house (and Puffy does not let visitors come to a dirty home!), but ended up very relaxing.  On Thursday, the closest thing I’ve ever had to a little sister, Morgan of I Call it Lovely, came up to visit with her mama.  She stayed in the city with me Thursday (I dragged her around apartment shopping and to dance class– what’s family for?), and then we spent the rest of the weekend at my parents’ house on the water.

We went out for seafood Saturday night and I finally got to use the gorgeous coral clutch she got me for my birthday.  I loved how sharp the color looked against my white dress, and that’s what I had been waiting to use it with, but after seeing how Cupcakes and Cashmere paired hers, I know I need to be more adventurous with it.  I figured out that it’s actually hard to find much that doesn’t go well with coral, especially in the summertime!

Having Morgan and her mom in town made me realize again how hard it’s going to be to not have my childhood home to go back to at holidays.  We always have Christmas Eve with their family but now with the move it looks like we have new traditions to start!  But like my mom said to Morgan’s, “those girls will always find their way back to each other.”  And we will– love you sissy :)

Weekend Carryalls

First weekend trip of the summer starts tonight after work– heading to Rhode Island for a graduation party and beaching with college friends!  I actually find it more difficult to pack for two days than I do for a week-long trip… so much I want to wear and not enough time!  I limit my packing by forcing myself to fit everything within a small duffel or tote.  It’s never easy, but I’m so much happier in the end with a small shoulder bag than a clunky rolly suitcase or oversized duffel.

These are some great sizes to go with for weekending, and what fun looks too!

Small Duffel in Blue Lagoon, Vera Bradley, $69 (select colors on sale!)

The Gardiner's Island Seersucker Acrylic Duffel Bag, Wm. J. Mills & Co., $130

Denim Beach Tote, Lucky Brand, $79

Jute Based Tote, CALYPSO St. Barth for Target, $14 (sale!)

Key-Per Duffle Satchel, Fossil, $98

Medium Weekender, LeSportsac, $98

Safe travels!!

Happy first day of summer and National Wear Your Lilly Pulitzer Day to all!  I’m wearing the first Lilly skirt I ever owned today in its honor– I wore it to my college send off party four years ago (wow!).  If you’re headed to a Lilly store today, don’t forget to check in on FourSquare for a special gift!

Brydferth: Handmade Fabric Rosette Accessories

I adore flowers.

Ok, generic statement, who doesn’t?  But I especially love them because they, like my own style, can either go preppy or hippy.  This Etsy designer, Brydferth, has created the most beautiful rosette accessories.  Headbands, barrettes, clutches, rings, shoe clips, even a bridal veil!

Black Lace and Golden Silk Rosette Bracelet, $25

Lavender Silk Rosette Shoe Clips with Bluette Clips, $34

Turquoise Blue Cotton Rosette Bobby Pin, $8

Rosette Headband, $34

For the Bride Rosette Hair Piece with Bird Cage, $70

Leanna at The Violet Reaction is hosting a Brydferth giveaway this week: winner receives a custom cotton rosette bobby pin!  I don’t know how I’d even choose a color if I were lucky enough to receive it– will probably end up buying a few on my own anyway :)

Check out more of these great accessories here, and let me know what your favorites are.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: thank goodness for Etsy!
