Weekends are for bakeries

I admit it. I’ve been hibernating this winter. Exploring new neighborhoods and trying out new places just has not been high on my list of priorities in this bitter cold. But Saturday brought us some sun in the morning, as well as milder temperatures, so it was off to a new bakery I went! Tatte Fine Cookies and Cakes has been sweetening up Brookline since 2008, and has that warm rustic feel that makes me want to sit there and sip my chai latte for hours on end.

English Rose

I’ve become a huge coffee drinker over the past few years, but I can’t resist an adorable tea room. These are shots from English Rose Tea Room, which I stumbled upon while visiting Carefree, Arizona, and has become known as the finest tearoom in the Southwest.

As usual, I’m always on the hunt for more tearooms to visit. I’m back in New England now, so send more local suggestions my way! xx

Spots of Tea

A couple of weeks ago, my mother and I dressed for High Tea at Boston’s London Cafe on Newbury Street. Located beneath the boutique hotel Royalton Suites, the tearoom was intimate and welcoming. It didn’t have quite the cute factor of other tea shops I’ve visited in the area, with their dainty floral china and knit cozies, but it did feel quite traditional.

Any Boston friends have recommendations for other good tea rooms in the area?

Sweets for Shopping

I am counting the hours until Fashion’s Night Out in Boston tonight! I’ll be sticking to Newbury Street + Copley Place and am ready to pack an unhealthy amount of browsing + shopping into three hours. I’m especially looking forward to recharging at Sweet Cupcakes– in true stylish Sweet form, they have partnered with local designers Daniela Corte, Michael De Paulo, and Mike&Ton to create limited edition FNO cupcakes for the soiree… how adorable are these?!

Sweet on Newbury is also offering complimentary FNO frosting shots to anyone who stops in!

A New Cupcake in Town

Georgetown Cupcake, of TLC’s DC Cupcakes fame, has finally made its way to Boston, and I finally had a chance to stop in its new Newbury Street location…!

Never have I ever met a cupcake with such a perfect balance between frosting + cake (and I’ve met my fair share of cupcakes). I am now acquainted with Gtown’s Red Velvet, Key Lime Pie, and Lemon Berry flavors– next on my list to try at 83 Newbury Street is most certainly Blueberry Cheesecake though :)

Derby de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo, The Kentucky Derby, and my best friend/roommate’s birthday marked three excuses to celebrate this weekend! Though I will say May 5 definitely threw some people for a loop this year– I saw ladies in sombreros drinking mint juleps and men in bowler hats downing margaritas. But we embraced it… here are snapshots of our celebrations! And those cupcakes– thank you Lauren Conrad for the delicious recipe.

I’m curious– how did you celebrate the double day of fun??

Saturday was spent with my sister having high tea in a seaside town in honor of The Royal Wedding. Windsor Tea Shop is possibly the cutest establishment in New England…

You should probably stop by. I recommend the cucumber tea sandwiches + peach tea.

Lulu’s

Boy I’ll tell ya, it is really difficult to live in my little Italian neighborhood sometimes. I am literally surrounded by carbs, cannolis, and cappuccinos. Oh and cupcakes. Cannot forget cupcakes.

Despite all of the famous bakeries in the North End of Boston (Mike’s, Modern, etc.), my favorite is tiny Lulu’s Sweet Shoppe. Call me crazy, but I’d take one of their s’mores cupcakes and a bag of candy over a cannoli any day.

[Pie] Pop It Lock It Drop It

Remember that time I made cake pops? The obsession continues.

My little brother, getting to be quite the good gift giver in his old age, got me a BabyCakes Pie Pop Maker for Christmas. I toyed with it a few times during the holidays, but whipped it out again this week to make some pops for my book club.

Do you have any BabyCakes makers? I think I’m going to have my heart set on the mini donut maker next. Donut pops anyone…?!

Let Them Eat Cake Pops

As a Valentine treat to myself + roomies, I made one of my favorite desserts last weekend, cake pops! I didn’t use a recipe per se, just this video and what’s on the back of a box of Funfetti cake mix :) Highly recommend these sweet little treats.

(step 1) bake cake!

(step 2) crumble cake, mix with frosting [so fun], and mold into balls.

(step 3) dip balls into melted candy melts

(step 4) sparkle with edible glitter!

(step 5) eat up.
