What You Can Do

I know I speak for many of the citizens of this city when I say thank you. Your outpouring of love and support is so appreciated.

Yesterday, Governor Deval Patrick and Mayor Thomas Menino set up The One Fund charity to support victims and their families. Former classmates of mine from Emerson College have designed these Boston Strong t-shirts, which I urge you all to purchase, as one hundred percent of the proceeds will go to The One Fund.

Never have I ever been more proud to be a Bostonian

On Wednesdays, we wear pink.

One of the absolute best things about being an Emerson College alum is meeting all of the talented and inspiring individuals the network connects you to, both current students and alumni. Last week, I met up with current student Celina Colby, fashion blogger behind Trends & Tolstoy. I considered myself to be pretty involved while in school, but as a sophomore, Celina is already blowing me out of the water. I discovered that in addition to Emerson, we share a love of Nutella lattes, exploring our little city of Boston, and, as you’ll see, pink blazers. We styled our fluorescent duds in pretty opposing ways and had fun battling it out in a photoshoot with Celina’s photographer Jamie Kaplan– to see the full battle, head on over to Trends & Tolstoy today!

Nearly Naked Run

Bet that caught your attention, huh?

Quick post today kids– want to bring your attention to a super fun fashion-for-a-cause event, and if you’re in Boston listen up!

Wiggio.com is bringing two Nearly Naked Runs to Beantown, specifically Emerson College and Boston University. It’s designed to “undress, de-stress, and do good!” How do you participate? Bring any clothes you’d like to donate to the campuses, and then participate in a mile-long fun run around the Boston Common and Esplanade, respectively. The clothes will then all be donated to the Big Brother / Big Sister program of Boston.

Runs are Wednesday, April 25 at Emerson and Thursday, May 3 at BU. Check out those links to the Facebook events for more info!

And if this trailer doesn’t get you excited, I don’t know what will!

post script. You don’t have to be a student– so no excuses!

Back To My Roots

For three years in college, I was a member of my school’s Fashion Society, serving as Vice President my senior year. I was so excited that I had the chance to visit this weekend and see their spring fashion show, which happens to be one of the largest entirely student-run fashion shows in the country (schools like FIDM and FIT have faculty involved in their productions). These kids young men and women are doing amazing things and I could not have been prouder to see them put on such a fantastic show!

This year, they spiced things up a bit. Half of the production featured designs done completely by students, while the other half featured student stylists– meaning they took pieces already in stores to put together ensembles. SUCH an interesting and enjoyable twist!

Most definitely stealing some styling tips from this line…

Linking up with a {little} dash of ash for an Instagram Monday. Congratulations again to all involved with Stylescape!

Purple + Gold

It bothers the heck out of me when friends make fun of my alma mater’s lack of athleticism. So we’re kind of an artsy school but HEY. We can still play ball.

Anddd alright we’re not NCAA recognized either but I’m still linking up with {long distance loving}‘s Sweet 16 Friday’s Fancies in honor of March Madness. Go Lions!

Perfect-Fit Ballet Button Tee, J Crew, $33
MOTO High Waisted Kristen Jeans, Topshop, $80
Leather Bow Clip, American Apparel, $16

Irie Lion Necklace, Lulu’s, $12

Ok and all that being said, as the daughter of an OSU alum I do need to give a big HELL YES to the Buckeyes on crushing Cinci last night :) I usually only pay attention to Ohio State football, but this year I think that deserves a change.

Happy weekend all!

GSG Graduates

Well, we did it!  On Monday , Emerson College’s Class of 2011 graduated at Boston’s Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theater.  It was a long day and an even longer senior week leading up to it, but so much fun and full of so many great memories (cliche much?).

As promised, here’s a fashion recap of my roommate’s commencement dresses:

Corey Jane in Urban Outfitters
Britt in Urban Outfitters
Amanda in White House Black Market
Natasha in J Crew
Samantha in Free People
Demetra in Anthropologie
Me in American Apparel
Talia in Urban Outfitters
Steph in Banana Republic

Such a wide range of tastes. Not. :)

It hasn’t even been a week and yet I miss all of my friends already.  Some are flying back to LA, some starting life in New York City, others moving into grad school.  I’m so proud of each and every one of them and am so excited for what they are all about to experience!

Have you attended any graduations this month?

Commencement Prep[aration]

Even though I graduated this past December and already have a diploma in hand, I’m excited to participate with my fellow classmates in our commencement ceremony in just under a month!  With it coming up so soon, I’m of course stressing about what to wear… under the gown, that is (silly that I worry about something few will even see?  Yes.  Care?  No.).  I’ve finally found a dress I love, surprisingly from American Apparel– a store I tend to stay away from as much more of a prep than a hipster.  But I love its vintage look and am so excited it’s purple to match one of my school’s colors (our purple and gold school wears all black graduation caps and gowns, next!).

As far as accessories go, it pains me that I won’t get to wear a bow or flower in my hair thanks to a certain traditional hat.  But at least I’ll be prep with my pearls :)  Here’s what I’m thinking:

Commencement

I also love the look because it reminds me of Mila Kunis’s 2011 Oscars dress, one of my favorites from that red carpet.  In case you’ve been living under a rock:

Oh please let lavender be a big color this summer!

Post script: Emerson girls, don’t get any ideas! :)
